By day, Diptav Shah (centre left) is a quality assurance associate with Canadian Blood Services. But outside of work, Diptav dedicates his time to community building alongside other leaders from the Gujarati Cultural Association of Ottawa. In addition to an active event schedule every year, this association also pledges to give financially to charities making a difference in the lives of others. Diptav saw this as the perfect opportunity for the Gujarati community in Ottawa to direct their generosity toward Canada’s Lifeline. The group’s financial giving to local charities is just one more way that they are helping to strengthen connections within the community—something they’ve been doing for people of Gujarati heritage and residents of Ottawa for more than 40 years! A big #ThankfulThursday thank you to Trupti, Diptav and Hiral (pictured from left to right), for presenting this gift and to the Gujarati Cultural Association of Ottawa for supporting patients.

When our appointment slots were looking a bit empty at our St. Catharines plasma donation centre, our incredible team stepped up in the most meaningful way possible—by becoming donors themselves! 😍✨ Seven of our dedicated staff members rolled up their sleeves to donate plasma, experiencing firsthand what our amazing donors go through every day. From the team lead of the centre to the plasma assistants and nurses, they got to see donation from a whole new perspective. Jessica-Lynn, one of the staff members who donated, had this to say: “It was a great honour to be on the other side of the process and see what the donors see. I’m so grateful to be a part of Canada's Lifeline!” Thank you to Jessica-Lynn as well as the other six donors for stepping up and making all the difference in such a big way 💕 #CanadianBloodServices #CanadasLifeline #PlasmaForLife #450Challenge

17 years ago, the joy of welcoming their firstborn son, Logan, quickly turned into a moment of fear when Adam's wife, Rosemary, nearly fainted just hours after the difficult birth. After being tested, her low iron levels revealed the need for a blood transfusion. Two extra days in the hospital followed, but the transfusion eventually worked its magic. Surely enough, Adam was able to bring Rosemary and baby Logan home just in time for the holidays ❤️ This experience ignited a passion in Adam for blood donation, a commitment that's now reached an incredible milestone—his 50th donation! This time, he was accompanied by his newly eligible 17-year-old son, Logan, for his first blood donation. “I’m not sure if I inspired him, but every time I donated I told him that he'll donate when he's old enough since he caused all of this”, Adam said jokingly. Thank you to your family for helping to strengthen #CanadasLifeline! #CanadianBloodServices #BloodForLife #PlasmaForLife

Over the last few weeks, we held #SwabAtSchool events across the country at various educational institutions in hopes of finding generous people to join the stem cell registry—needless to say, we were blown away by the amount of people who came out to support #CanadasLifeline! 🫶 Coast to coast, with your help we were able able to swab up over 3,600 people to join our stem cell registry! That means over 3,600 more chances to find a lifesaving match for a patient in need. You didn’t just make a difference, you made all the difference! Thank you to everybody who came by to #SwabUp or even just to say hello 🥰 Thank you to OtherHalf-Chinese Stem Cell Initiative for sponsoring this event. #StemCellsForLife

Did you know a patient’s life or health may depend on blood components, stem cells or even an organ from a donor of similar ethnic background? 🌍 Because blood type is inherited, people with complex blood needs, or those needing a stem cell transplant often rely on donors of similar ancestry. To meet the needs of all patients, we require a donor and registrant base that reflects Canada’s ethnically diverse population. January 23, 2024 at 6:58 A.M., Katherine received a phone call that there was a heart for her. Hours later, she was on her way to the hospital to complete testing and two days later she came out of surgery with a new heart 💚 To ring in the one year anniversary of her heart transplant, Katherine held a ‘heartiversary’ party and celebrated with her friends and family. Thanks to her organ donor, Katherine was given a second chance at life—something she does not take for granted. Now, Katherine honours her donor by sharing her story to educate people and tirelessly advocating for organ donation. #CanadasLifeline #OrgansForLife #TissuesForLife
